Steven Forsythe
Senior Economist

Dr. Steven Forsythe joined Futures Institute in 2007, following a total of 16 years of HIV/AIDS experience at the Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública (Mexico), the Futures Group International, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and Family Health International. Dr. Forsythe has worked on various USAID-funded HIV/AIDS projects, including AIDSTECH, AIDSCAP and POLICY. Dr. Forsythe is an HIV/AIDS health economist with extensive experience working in areas including resource allocation, costing, socioeconomic impact assessments and workplace interventions. Prior to joining Futures Institute, Dr. Forsythe was a Division Chief at INSP and was the Director of Finance and Planning of HIV/AIDS programs at Futures Group. Dr. Forsythe has worked in more than 80 difference countries (including 12 of the 15 PEPFAR countries) and has been published widely in the field of HIV/AIDS.

As the co-founder of the International AIDS and Economics Network (IAEN), Dr. Forsythe has been a leading consultant in the field of HIV/AIDS. Most recently Dr. Forsythe has worked with the World Bank’s AIDS Strategy and Action Plan (ASAP) initiative, which provides support to countries as they design HIV/AIDS strategic plans. Dr. Forsythe has worked as a consultant for a number of different donor organizations, including USAID, DfID, the World Bank, UNAIDS, WHO and UNFPA, assisting countries and organizations with capacity enhancement in managements systems, program monitoring and evaluation and fostering public-private partnerships to effectively respond to HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Forsythe has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago in finance and marketing and a Doctorate in health economics from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Dr. Forsythe’s PhD was conducted in Kenya, using economic tools to evaluate the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS interventions in the country. He speaks English and Spanish and has extensive work experience in Asia, Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean.
